Nov. 1-Regensburg Germany
Nov. 1-
Found out last night the details of moving to another ship. From Regensburg to Kelheim the Danube is at historic lows and the ship cannot traverse. Our suitcases need to be in the hallway at 7:00 for collection and transfer to Kelheim, about 2 hours away.
The day for us is a bus ride into Kelheim and a walking tour. After the tour, we will be separated into small groups and dropped off at various host residences for conversation, cake and coffee. The idea is for us to interact with local folks for about 90 minutes.
After the session, we will be picked up and transported to the new ship, the M/S Addagio. Same type ship, same cabin numbers but the ship is on the other side of the low water. That will be the ship we use to get to Amsterdam.
We were bused to Regensburg, a city not damaged much over the 1,000 years of existence or warfare. In the early 1990's, the city administration realized the jewel they had and have rehabilitated most of the city in the original conditions. St. Peter church took 600 years to finish, the streets are all cobblestones and there is almost no auto traffic Touristy but still nice.
There were 35 in our tour group, a very manageable number. We were led by an American lady who had moved here 20 years ago with her German husband and she was very professional.
The city is very well maintained and clean.
We were to be back at the bus at 4:00 for a 4:00 departure. Sure enough, one couple was 30 minutes late returning and no one on the bus was pleased. The guy did have the grace to apologize. I am pretty sure he was 95 years old or more.
Dinner was a Bavarian buffet with a carving station of sucking pig. Lots of good food.
Tomorrow------stay tuned.
