Well.
While we were at our Lake Erie Condo (doesn't that sound grand and pretentious !) , we decided to take a river cruise (again.) As we had been on a Viking River Cruise, we decided to try another line, one that seemed to be a quality tour. Grand Circle Cruise Line (GCT.)
We read the reviews, had some recommendations from friends who had been on one of their cruises and figured "what the hell, go for it."
Perhaps wrong.
Here is the story to date, as this blog is being created Oct. 23, just 3 days before departure. Some emotion is left out, blood has been wiped off the page, and tears don't stain if you dry them quickly.
1. We paid the full price on time.
2. Apparently two separate accounts were created for us due to an administrative error at GCT. That caused several small problems with mail delivery to NY vs. Florida.
3. We were to receive the 'final package' three weeks before departure, something along the lines of the last week in September. Our traveling companions, John and Sue Low, got theirs on time.
4. When we realized we had not received our final package (October 14 or so), we contacted GCT. We were not given any satisfaction with that phone call.
5. On a subsequent phone call, we were told the package would be sent overnight and would arrive in "a day or two'. Little did we know that their 'vendor' would not send it out for 3-4 days after they were ordered.
6. After still no final package (Oct. 19) we were contacted by a supervisor per our request. Long story short, 'sorry about that' and 'no compensation possible' was the only result.
Finally got the package Monday, Oct. 22 just 4 days before we are due to leave for Vienna. We are going over one day early and staying in a Vienna hotel to get over any jet lag before boarding the boat.
Oh!, by the way....We got an email that due to the rivers being at a low level, we would be on a different boat to begin with, have to change to a separate boat mid tour and might have to stay in a hotel or two.
Let's hope the actual trip is not this hosed up...
